after-work ramblings...mild complaining
I just finished an 8-hour shift and I'm pretty exhausted!!!
This post started off as a kind of ramble about my job and turned into a rant about how everything is moving too fast! So I removed some things and added others.
Also please bear with any typos, my "D" key is being so finicky right now.
So I originally started talking about my boss, who is very nice and a very great boss generally. He just...moves so fast sometimes. He rushes customers through interactions, he takes on multiple tasks at once, he treats every hour like peak busy hours. It can be so exhausting to witness.
And it's not just him. Our assistant manager is like this too. She rushes through interactions and throws food together, sacrificing quality, which is something we're supposed to be striving for.
I started thinking about how this happens in other aspects of our lives. There’s a constant sense of urgency in the air. People drive like they’re ready to kill. People can’t handle waiting for service in retail settings. Everyone is So Damn Impatient.
And because everyone is so damn impatient, we end up sacrificing things like safety, quality, and genuine connections to name a few. We’re making ourselves miserable even though the solution is in our faces.
We need to slow down.
When we slow down, we get to
observe, we get to ask questions, we get to take our time and do things with intention.
When we slow down, we can repair our nervous systems and once you start to heal your nervous system, you have more capacity to do more for your community.
When we slow down, quality goes up. Waiting for something feels worth it when you know a lot of time and care is being put into it.
I don’t have much else to say other than this: Start practicing slowing down for the sake of humanity I BEG.
Sincerely,
autistic-as-hell Ginger
